Children are amazing beings, and most importantly, they are our future. I want to make a difference in the lives of children, to help them make and accomplish goals, and to instill in them a desire to succeed.
About Me
I am currently teaching grade one with the Foothills School Division, or the Foothills family as I like to call it. I am a graduate of the University of Lethbridge, with a B.Sc and a B.Ed. I feel so lucky to be able to integrate my two biggest passions, science and children, in a life long career of teaching. Teaching grades one and two this past year have really shown me a lot about myself, and about my professional practice. I have learned so much about assessment, differentiation, and the thinking process of a six year old!
Prior to my employment with the Foothills School division, I completed my Professional Semester III internship in a grade 2 classroom in Okotoks, Alberta. Over the four months of this internship I was able to find and develop my true passion for teaching. I had the opportunity to teach all core subjects; Science, Math, Social, and Language Arts. I was also able to step out of my comfort zone and teach some Gym as well. My PS III internship was an amazing experience in which I was welcomed in to an extraordinary school community and developed many amazing relationships.
I completed my Professional Semester II practicum in April of 2012. I completed this six week practicum in a grade 8 classroom teaching Science in High River, Alberta. While this was a challenging experience, I believe that it helped me to grow immensely as an educator and as an individual.
I completed my Professional Semester 1 practicum in December of 2011 in which I was student teaching at a school in Nanton, Alberta. I was provided with the wonderful opportunity to work with a variety of different grades, but I mainly taught grades two and four.
On a more personal note, traveling is also a passion of mine. I have had the opportunity to live in the United States, overseas in Caracas, Venezuela, as well as travel to Mexico, the Caribbean, and Europe. I look forward to some day adventuring to Africa, Australia, and China. I also thoroughly enjoy all things arts and crafts! Everything from cutting and pasting, to scrap booking, and even baking! If I'm not spending my time creating things for the classroom or travelling, you can find me outside. I love to adventure outdoors, play baseball, garden, and frequent dog parks.
