KSA #4 Teachers demonstrate knowledge of the content they teach
"In her field of expertise which is Science she demonstrates vast knowledge and skills."
- Sally C., PS I Teacher Associate
I believe that my university education has allowed me to develop a true and deep understanding of the content that I am required to teach. Within my Bachelor of Science degree as a general science major I was required to take many science courses in the fields of Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Neuroscience, Psychology and Health Sciences. Additionally, my degree also required my to fulfill a "General Liberal Education" requirement which consisted of a number of different Fine Arts and Social Science courses. Some of the courses I took directly relate to the content in the Alberta Program of Studies, however much of the content was helpful in a different way. These courses helped me to develop critical thinking and problem solving skills which I have been able to use in all aspects of my life, including interpreting the Program of Studies. Although it wasn't always easy, I worked extremely hard to obtain my degrees and develop these skills; a characteristic that I believe easily transfers to the classroom and the planning required.
"Allie was able to deliver the curriculum content for all subjects with ease. Her knowledge of the curriculum outcomes combined with her background knowledge exceeded expectations for lesson delivery."
- Jodean H., PS III Teacher Mentor
"Allie displays solid content knowledge and makes connections between the content and other parts of the discipline and other disciplines, and her plans and practice reflect accurate understanding of prerequisite relationships among topics and concepts."
